Sooke’s Birth & Postpartum Doula — Lauren Fortuna-Floch, Nest & Nourish

If you’re looking for a doula in Sooke, BC — hey, hi, hello, you’ve found her!!

I’m Lauren Fortuna-Floch, a holistic birth and postpartum doula based right here in Sooke, BC. I’m also a nurse, certified nutritional practitioner, trauma-informed somatic coach, and matrescence educator. And most importantly, I’m a mother who lives in this community, who understands what it means to navigate pregnancy, birth, and new parenthood in our little town of Sooke, and who is deeply honoured to support Sooke families through one of the most significant seasons of their lives.

Why Having a Local Sooke Doula Matters

There’s something extra unique about giving birth when you live in Sooke. Navigating the Sooke Road drive to Victoria General Hospital. The question of whether to birth at home or make the trip (what if a tree comes down and we can’t make it there?!!). The way Sooke can feel both beautifully close-knit and quietly isolated, especially in those tender early weeks with a newborn.

Having a doula who is already in Sooke changes all of that.

When labour begins at 2am, I’m not driving from Victoria. I’m here. When you need someone in those early postpartum days, I’m not a 40-minute drive away, I’m your neighbour, your local support, your village.

I know this community. I’ve built wonderful relationships with Sooke Midwifery. I know what it feels like to birth and become a mother in this particular place at the edge of Vancouver Island. And I bring all of that local knowledge and genuine community rootedness to every family I support.

What I Offer Sooke Families

My care goes far beyond what most people think of when they hear the word “doula.” This isn’t just someone to hold your hand or squeeze your hips through contractions, though I do that too, and I do it well if I do say so myself….

Birth doula support that is holistic, trauma-informed, and deeply personal. We’ll prepare your body, your nervous system, and your whole self for the experience ahead. I’ll be on call from 38 weeks, by your side through labour and birth, and with you in those first hours after your baby arrives. This is not cookie-cutter support. Every birth, every family, every experience is different, and I show up fully for all of it.

In-home postpartum doula care that centres your recovery, your nourishment, and your becoming. I come to your home in the weeks after birth with food, herbal support, practical help, and genuine presence. It’s the kind of care that helps you actually recover and thrive, not just survive the newborn season.

Birth pool rental exclusively for Sooke families planning home births. Water immersion is one of the most effective and underused comfort tools in labour, and having a birth pool in your own home changes the experience entirely. I handle the setup and cleanup, so you don’t have to think about it.

Prenatal consultations and childbirth education — as one of Sooke’s only dedicated childbirth educators, I offer in-depth sessions that go far beyond a standard hospital class. We cover birth physiology, advocacy and informed decisions making, comfort measures, nervous system preparation, and what to truly expect in labour, the days and weeks after, and through your “becoming”. Tailored entirely to you, your questions, and your vision for this experience. Group classes in Sooke core, and private in-home options too.

Rituals, circles, and ceremonies for the family who understands that birth is a threshold worthy of intention. I offer mother blessing ceremonies to honour the woman stepping into motherhood, and postpartum closing ceremonies — a traditional practice of warming, binding, and honouring the mother’s body after birth. Sacred, personal, and shaped entirely around what feels true to you.

The Full Circle Care Package — my most complete offering, combining full birth doula support with six weeks of weekly in-home postpartum visits. For families who want one trusted person walking beside them from pregnancy through the early weeks of motherhood, without a single gap in care.

Mother’s Helper — for the mother six months or more into this beautiful, demanding life whose to-do list has quietly taken over. Entirely practical and task-based — laundry, meal prep, organizing, errands, groceries — shaped around whatever would make the biggest difference in your home that day.

Who I Work With

I work with Sooke families who know this is bigger than just having a baby. Who understand that birth is a rite of passage — not just a medical event to be managed. Who are looking for support that honours the whole of who they are, not just their pregnancy.

My clients tend to be thoughtful, curious, and questioning of the norms. They’re looking for education, coping tools, guidance, and advocacy. And they’re looking for someone who can walk beside them through it all — with deep knowledge, genuine presence, and care that feels as intentional as they are.

If that sounds like you, I’d love to connect.

A Note on Home Birth in Sooke

Sooke has one of the higher rates of planned home births on Vancouver Island — and it makes sense. This community values autonomy, connection to nature, and a more intentional approach to life’s big moments. Home birth with a registered midwife is a safe, MSP-covered option for low-risk pregnancies in BC, and it’s something I fully support and love being part of.
